PEN SKETCH OF THE VIEW TO THE VISITOR CENTRE FROM THE ABBEY

The view in the sketch is taken through two columns of the Abbey ruins. The access to the historic site is shown on the side elevation of the visitor centre. The access is raised to the first floor level in order to address the change in topography up to the site of the ruin. The access is also gained through use of a bridge which provides a threshold and achieves the effect of a light touch of the modern additions onto the ancient site.

This view taken from inside the Abbey ruin faces toward the town. This part of the Abbey is one of few which is still covered, in this case, with a vaulted ceiling. The row of columns leads to the opening at the far end of the structure, framing the view of the town below.
